20 Feet From Stardom - H 2014
PARK CITY — Mick Jagger is in talks to turn the Oscar-nominated documentary 20 Feet From Stardom into a one-hour scripted TV series and a Broadway musical.
Jagger and Victoria Pearman would executive produce the TV series through their Jagged Films banner alongside the film’s producer and director, Morgan Neville.
Like the film, the series and the musical adaptations would follow the lives of backup singers who perform in the shadows of some of the biggest music stars in the business. The film took a look at the history of backup singers, but the TV series would only depict contemporary performers.
Talks are ongoing that also would bring some of the singers featured in the documentary to the Broadway version, including Darlene Love and Lisa Fischer. Love is no stranger to Broadway, having appeared in Hairspray. Love and Fischer, Merry Clayton and Judith Hill have been making the rounds during awards season, including singing the national anthem at the Rose Bowl.
20 Feet From Stardom debuted at Sundance last year, when it was acquired by Radius-TWC. The crowd-pleasing pic went on to become the highest-grossing documentary of the year and an Oscar nominee for best documentary. Neville is on hand at Sundance this year as a documentary juror.
Though Jagger isn’t a producer on the 20 Feet From Stardom documentary, he appears extensively in interviews and footage.
