Mindy McCready says reports that she and her 5-year-old son are “missing” aren’t true.
The country singer insists there was never a missing persons report filed with the Cape Coral, Fla., police department despite what the state’s Department of Children and Families told the Associated Press.

“I am working with lawyers to try to get all this straightened out,” she told Access Hollywood via e-mail Wednesday. “I did not steal my child, as it would be impossible for me to kidnap what already belongs to me! There never was any missing persons report and never an Amber Alert.”

A DCF spokesman told the AP that McCready was allowed to visit him at her father’s home. But on Tuesday, the DCF found that McCready and Zander weren’t there, prompting the missing-persons report.
Cape Coral Police Lt. Tony Sizemore told the AP on Wednesday that McCready and her son are not in the Lee County, Fla., area, and that she is “currently outside of the terms of her family court stipulation.”

A judge has ruled that McCready must return Zander by 5 p.m. Thursday or face arrest.
This is just the latest in a series of troubles for the singer, who first topped the charts in the mid-1990s. Since then, she has dealt with domestic abuse, drug and drunk-driving arrests and a suicide attempt. Three years ago, she was hospitalized after a cutting her wrists and taking several pills in what police deemed to be a suicide attempt.
McCready also appeared on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab last year, claiming she suffered from love — and not drug — addiction. In one episode, she was seen being rushed to a hospital following a seizure, where scans showed she has brain damage.
