Sony’s Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has sold new CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait, starring Kevin James, to Channel 4 in the U.K. and a range of other international buyers.
Channel 4 will air it on its E4 network.
In the U.S., Kevin Can Wait attracted more than 13.2 million viewers in its debut. Now in its fourth week, it continues to be the top new comedy on U.S. TV and the No. 2 comedy among adults 25-54 behind The Big Bang Theory.
SPT announced the deal at MIPCOM in Cannes on Tuesday along with sales elsewhere. iQiy has picked up exclusive rights to the series in China, while Viacom 18’s Comedy Central has picked it up in India.
TVNZ 2 will air it in New Zealand, while Turner has secured the comedy for 20 countries across Latin America. In addition, OSN has taken the show for the Middle East.
“Kevin James is a huge talent and loved by audiences around the world,” said Keith LeGoy, president, distribution, SPT. “The series had a fantastic start in the U.S., and we’re confident that more international buyers will fall for Kevin’s many charms.”
The former star of The King of Queens plays a newly retired police officer, Kevin, who is looking forward to spending more quality time with his family but quickly discovers he faces tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets.
Sony Pictures Television is shopping the series to international buyers at this week’s MIPCOM alongside such titles as Blacklist: Redemption, Notorious, Timeless and The Halcyon.
