Black is set to star in Michael Winterbottom's "Bailout," a comedy based on Jess Walter's novel "The Financial Lives of the Poets," about a man's attempt to escape financial ruin after meeting two losers in a market.
Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesJack Black‘s Electronic Dynamite shingle has signed on to co-produce the U.S. version of Japanese game show Hide and Seek, an extreme version of the popular kids’ game.
Reality TV producers T Group — whose credits include Tru TV’s Storage Hunters and Container Wars — picked up remake rights to the original Japanese series from Eccho Rights, the distribution arm of Scandinavian-Asian format group Sparks Eccho, and will co-produce the U.S. version.
The Japanese show is billed as the ultimate game of Hide and Seek. A family — helped by a team of professionals who design false walls, camouflage costumes and booby traps — hides in their own home from a celebrity seeker. If the celebrity fails to find them in time, the family wins a cash prize. Hide and Seek does not yet have a U.S. broadcaster on board.
Mia Engstrom, director of sales and acquisitions at Eccho Rights, said she sees the deal with T Group as the start of a long-term relationship between the two firms. Eccho has picked up T Group’s Secret Celebrity format for international sales and will be hawking it to buyers at next month’s MIPTV market in Cannes.
