Mischa Barton really did not like competing on Dancing With the Stars.
In a new profile on The Ringer, the O.C. alum was asked about her short-lived stint on the reality TV show. “Ugh,” she replied. “I had no idea it would be so bad.”
Barton said she got “told off” by her dancing partner Artem Chigvintsev. The actress said the dancing competition had been inviting her on to the show for years but she had waited until she could have creative control.
“I was supposed to control the costumes, I was told that I could do the design aspect of it, that’s kind of the reason why I agreed to do it,” said Barton.”That didn’t happen. It wasn’t collaborative like a choreographer on a film set.”
Barton said she was confused by the show, calling it a popularity contest. “It was like The Hunger Games,” said the actress. “It was awful. I was so glad to get kicked off.”
She said the one positive result of her appearance on the show is that she became more active on social media, particularly Instagram. “I remember the days when you had no voice, and [the media] could make up stories and say whatever they wanted, and now at least [the public has] an insight into your life. People can see what you’re really like. Twitter less so, but Instagram has an artistic side to it, where you can see through that person’s eye, what they creatively choose, what they’re up to and who they are ?— ?you get a feeling for them. I enjoy it now.”
