It has been a big week for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Not only was she sworn in on Thursday as the youngest woman to serve in Congress in history — she is now a part of The Breakfast Club after an attempt to shame her spectacularly backfired.
A video of a Ocasio-Cortez dancing on a rooftop with college friends as the characters did in the ’80s classic The Breakfast Club was posted Wednesday by a right-wing Twitter account (now disabled) trying to pawn the footage off as scandalous.
The footage did go viral — because it was adored.
Even Breakfast Club star Molly Ringwald saw the video and responded.
“That’s it, Alexandria you’re in the club! @allysheedy1 #AlexandriaOcasioCortez #DemsTakeTheHouse,” the actress said via Twitter.
Breakfast Club co-star Ally Sheedy also shared Ringwald’s response.
Social media users were quick to drown the right-wing Twitter account in sarcasm, as even stars commented on the dismal attempt at mudslinging.
“Well, @AOC is officially done. She’ll never recover from the world seeing her… (watches video) …dancing adorably and having fun with her friends in high school?” Patton Oswalt quipped via Twitter.
On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez posted a new video of her dancing outside her office at the Capitol. The tweet was retweeted more than 90,000 times and became her most-retweeted post ever.
I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous.
Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂 pic.twitter.com/9y6ALOw4F6
