The Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), set to run June 19-26, has announced its official selection, which is to include Nick Sandow’s The Wannabe, executive produced by Martin Scorsese.
The official selection consists of 12 films this year, including A trois on y va (All About Them) by French director Jerome Bonnell, Armi el??! (Armi Alive!) by Finland’s Jorn Donner and Kimi wa iiko by Japanese director Mipo Oh.
The Russian news agency TASS quoted MIFF program director Kirill Razlogov as saying that agreement was reached about the inclusion of The Wannabe, although an official confirmation is yet to come.
This year, the official selection will feature three Russian films: Orlean by Andrei Proshkin, who collected MIFF’s best director award for Orda (The Horde) in 2012; Alexander Mindadze‘s Lovely Hans, Dear Peter, co-produced with Germany and Great Britain; and Arventur by Irina Yevteyeva.
French director Jean-Jacques Annaud is the chairman of the jury.
Earlier this year, the festival’s management said that this edition will have to be shorter and screen fewer movies due to poor economic conditions in Russia and last year’s devaluation of the ruble.
