SEOUL — “Moss,” a new blockbuster thriller and the latest film by the director Kang Woo-suk (“Silmido”) topped the local weekend boxoffice, according to the Korean Film Council.
A crime thriller based on an Internet cartoon set in rural town, “Moss” attracted 1.13 million admissions in three days since opening on Friday. Considering the film’s rating, restricted for 18 and under, and the running time well over two hours (158 minutes), the film is considered a significant achievement.
“Eclipse,” which opened on 567 screens nationwide, sold 397,000 tickets over the weekend with the total of 1.78 million admissions. “Shrek Forever,” a 3-D animation by Dreamworks came in third at 289,000 and “Into the Fire,” a film about student soldiers from the Korean War that sold 186,000 tickets, followed.
“Knight and Day,” starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, came in fifth at 184,200 admissions followed by two Korean films, “Man of Vendetta” at 68,970 and “The Servant” at 13,137.
