Topping the competition with seven nominations, the entertainer is included in the majority of the top categories, including best song (for her “Dark Horse” hit with Juicy J), best pop, best female best live and best U.S. act.
Ariana Grande follows close behind with six nominations, while new The Voice coach Pharrell Williams and Aussie boy band 5 Seconds of Summer have five. One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Sam Smith and rising star Kiesza are nominated in four categories.
Competing against Perry for the top best song prize is Grande (“Problem” featuring Azalea), Eminem (“The Monster” featuring Rihanna), Williams (“Happy”) and Smith (“Stay With Me”). American musicians vying for the best U.S. act are Perry, Beyonce, Eminem, Fifth Harmony and Williams.
