Timed to Veterans Day, MTV is honoring young war veterans with a new documentary.
MTV’s Got Your 6 brings to the forefront the stories of young soldiers and Marines returning home from active duty. The film, made in partnership with veteran advocacy organization Got Your 6, will premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. ET/PT, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The one-hour doc follows four soldiers and Marines from across the U.S. — Dustin, 25 (Marines corporal); Chris, 25 (Marine veteran); Tim, 22 (Purple Heart recipient); and Geoffrey, 25 (military recruiter) — as they return from Afghanistan and settle back into their communities and lives. While there is immediate relief from the stress of war upon returning home, it is replaced with new obstacles.
Karga Seven Pictures is behind MTV’s Got Your 6, a production of MTV’s news and docs division. Dave Sirulnick, Jonathan Mussman, Sarah Wetherbee, Kelly Mcpherson, Emre Sahin and Kim Kanter are executive producers.
MTV has previously aired documentaries, short-form features, special events, concerts, veteran-themed episodes of True Life and political roundtables, such as 2008’s Choose or Loose Presents: Clinton and Obama Answer Young Veterans, to raise awareness around veteran issues. The network also continues to have a partnership with The Jed Foundation’s “Half of Us” campaign, which aims to break down misconceptions surrounding emotional health issues.
