LONDON – Viacom’s MTV is bringing back U.K. dating reality hit show Ex on the Beach for a second season that is scheduled to air on MTV U.K. in early 2015.
The network has also ordered a ninth season of reality hit series Geordie Shore, known as Britain’s answer to Jersey Shore. It will air later this year; the show’s eighth season just debuted on MTV U.K. on Tuesday.
Since its launch in May 2011, Geordie Shore has been a ratings phenomenon. Season 7, which aired in September, is the highest-rated show in MTV U.K.’s history.
Since its launch in April, Ex on the Beach has also become a big success, ranking as MTV’s highest-ever series launch in Britain. It also drew the second-highest season ratings of all time for an MTV franchise in Britain.

New episodes typically ranked No. 1 in the 10 p.m. time slot among people 16-34. Across its eight-week run, the series was the most tweeted-about TV show for a pay TV channel in the U.K.
The show features eight single guys and girls who head to the beach looking for love … only to have their exes show up there.
Ex on the Beach also aired on MTV in the U.S. in June, marking the first time an MTV U.K. commission has been shown on the U.S. channel.
Internationally, Ex on the Beach has already aired in such markets as Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico and Brazil, reaching 9.5 million total viewers.
Said Kerry Taylor, senior vp, general manager for MTV U.K.: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Ex on the Beach is returning. The show has connected incredibly well with our target audience, which is reflected in the phenomenal TV ratings and noise on social media.”
Ex on the Beach season 2 will be produced by Whizz Kid Entertainment. Geordie Shore season 9 will be produced by Lime Pictures.
