It’s shocking to think that Los Angeles-based contemporary designer Cynthia Vincent has never been to Coachella, considering that every self-respecting, festival-going fashionista has most likely rocked her caftans and print-splashed pieces on the polo grounds at one point in time (Rachel Bilson, Blake Lively and Gwen Stefani are fans). This year, Vincent is not only headed to the desert for the first weekend of festivities, but she’s also throwing a private Palm Springs brunch Sunday to celebrate.
“Coachella has always been a go-to for my customers,” explained Vincent, who has had tickets to the event in years past, but had to give them away due to a conflicting production schedule. “It’s a natural fit — we’ve always been meaning to do it. I do soft, ethereal pieces that work well in hot weather,” she added.
So what’s the Godmother of Boho Chic planning on wearing for the occasion? “I am a last-minute kinda girl,” she laughed. “I’ll throw together some great jewelry, flats and a caftan. And a great small bag.”
But the one thing Vincent does have locked down is her playlist for the desert trek. “I grew up on road trips. I visited every state as a kid,” said the Inland Empire native, who just returned from a glamping trip to Joshua Tree. Girl Talk and Chromeo are on her must-see list this weekend, as is Bryan Ferry, who — along with Cat Stevens, Broken Bells and Lorde — makes the cut on her nostalgia-inspired road-trip playlist. “It’s all about turning it up loud and exploring,” she said.
