National Geographic Channel is readying two new documentary specials — one on the Boston Marathon Bombers and another focused on interviews with 10 living U.S. war generals.
The network, which has seen recent ratings success in similar efforts Inside 9/11 and The ’80s: The Decade That Made Us, continues to push into marquee documentary events. It will first air Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers on April 13, timed to the anniversary of the attack at the 2013 Boston Marathon and the ensuing manhunt for suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers, from Locked Up Abroad producers Raw TV Ltd, includes interviews with the FBI, the Boston Police Department and survivors of the bombings — as well as former Boston mayor Thomas M. Menino and Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick.
“This event is still an open wound for those who lived through the nightmare, and even for those who shockingly watched it play out in the media,” said exec vp programming Heather Moran. “This film is a conclusive account of the event as told by both victims and the brave men and women who were on the ground passionately fighting to bring their city back from the brink. Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers is truly a heroes’ story.”
American War Generals is being eyed for a fall premiere. From the creative teams behind Inside 9/11 and The Last Days of Osama bin Laden, the documentary features interviews with Colin Powell, Stanley A. McChrystal, David Petraeus, Wesley Clark, Jack Keane, George William Casey, Barry McCaffer, Raymond Odierno, Karl Eikenberry, Michael T. Flynn and Herbert R. McMaster.
“This groundbreaking special unveils the complex world of conflict strategy and decision-making from our most renowned four-star generals,” said NGC president Howard T. Owens. “Inside access with America’s most elite military leadership will change viewers’ perception of foreign policy and modern military.”
The interviews will cover more than 50 years of international conflict and boasts the most four-star generals gathered for one doc. It’s being executive produced by Tresha Mabile and Peter Bergen, with Jonathan Towers for Towers Productions.
Both Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers and American War Generals will air across the globe in the 171 countries where NGC is carried.
