Joe PuglieseNBC is back in business with West Wing’s John Wells.
The network has ordered to pilot Bad Girls, an adaption of the long-running UK hit series of the same name. The project follows the ins-and-outs of a group of unlikely women in a federal prison: a scandalous female warden, her new protégé and a host of inmates – some mothers, some friends—who struggle with loyalties to people on the inside and the outside.
Wells, currently showrunning Showtime’s Shameless, is joined by Andrew Stearn and Nancy Pimental along with the British producers from Shed Media as executive producers on the Warner Bros. produced project. Pimental will also pen the pilot episode.
Girls marks Wells’ second pilot order this development season. Additionally, he has single-camera comedy Prodigy Bully with Stearn and Mike O’Malley set up at Fox. Earlier this month he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Wells, whose other small screen credits include ER and TNT’s Southland, is repped by CAA.
