NBC’s local Connecticut affiliate has announced that it will not be airing Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly‘s interview with Infowars host Alex Jones.
In an internal memo obtained Friday by the Associated Press, NBC Connecticut staff members were told station executives made the decision after listening to concerns from employees, viewers and families affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The memo says the executives “considered the deep emotions from the wounds of that day that have yet to heal.”
Kelly had drawn criticism for her decision to interview the controversial radio host, who has questioned whether the killing of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012 was a hoax.
In a note that has since been taken down, WVIT NBC Connecticut promised to “make sure to give voice to those most affected by the tragedy, and most impacted by the interview” on its Sunday-night broadcast. Anchor Kevin Nathan will report from Washington, D.C., to cover the Sandy Hook Promise Champions gala on Friday night. The station also promised to talk to local parents and “cover their commitment to change.”
