TORONTO – International children’s network KidsCo will be broadcast from the production headquarters of minority shareholder Corus Entertainment in Toronto.
KidsCo, a joint venture that has NBCUniversal International as a majority 51 percent investor, will see content supplier Corus take over programming and scheduling duties, as well as contribute to marketing and on-air promotions.
“This partnership not only showcases our expertise in producing and programming, but demonstrates Corus Quay’s world class operations,” Corus Television president Doug Murphy said Monday in a statement.
The Corus Quay facility is already home to 24 TV channels, including kids’ cable channels like YTV, Nickelodeon Canada and Treehouse.
Corus also owns and runs Nelvana, the Canadian animation giant.
The programming rejig at Kids Co. follows another animation producer, Cookie Jar Entertainment, in May 2012 cashing out of the joint venture after five years.
At the time, NBCUniversal and Corus raised their corresponding stakes to buy out Cookie Jar.
Hendrik McDermott now runs KidsCo as managing director and has introduced new branding and programming.
KidsCo, launched in Sept. 2007, offers content globally to 100 territories in 17 languages via cable, satellite TV and IP TV channels.
Its content includes Beyblade, Grossology, Rolie Polie Olie, Jacob Two-Two and Babar.
