Lionsgate’s and Regency TV’s joint venture has found its leader.
The company has tapped E! vet Kevin Plunkett as its executive vp and head of television for the newly formed TV partnership. He’ll be based at New Regency’s Century offices rather than Lionsgate’s Santa Monica headquarters; he’ll report to a joint board of the two companies. In his new role, Plunkett will be working closely with executives at both to mine New Regency’s library of IP as well as to generate original ideas for all platforms.
“Kevin is a gifted and highly experienced creative executive with a track record of successful series, and our team has enjoyed working with him on numerous projects, most recently on our hit drama The Royals,” said Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “We know from our work with Kevin that his experience developing fan-favorite shows coupled with New Regency’s assets is a winning combination that will lead to high-quality, buzzworthy series that networks will want and audiences will love.”
Added New Regency’s Chairman Yariv Milchan and COO Jonathan Fischer in a joint statement: “Kevin is a well-respected programming executive with excellent relationships throughout the industry and the perfect creative fit for this endeavor. New Regency has an extensive library of classic and beloved properties and we are very pleased that our production joint venture with Lionsgate will allow many of those stories to continue on television.”
The new corporate entity was announced earlier this year at NATPE. Plunkett joins after a multiyear stint as senior vp scripted programming at E!. In that role, he ushered the NBCU-owned cable network into the scripted space, albeit slowly and modestly. The network’s next foray comes in 2017 with The Arrangement. Prior to E!, he spent nearly seven years at ABC, working at both the network and studio on such series as Cougar Town, Happy Endings, Scrubs and long-running According to Jim.
