DC Sets New ‘Wonder Woman’ Comic Book Creative Team

Both Batman and Superman have gotten a lot of attention recently, thanks to a (non-existent) wedding and comic book relaunch respectively, leading to fans wondering when Wonder Woman was going to get the spotlight. DC Entertainment has answered the question, announcing that Ms. Marvel co-creator G. Willow Wilson will be taking over the writing of the ongoing Wonder Woman comic book this fall.

This marks a return to DC for Wilson, who previously created Cairo and Air for the company’s DC Vertigo imprint, as well as writing Superman, Vixen and The Outsiders for its superhero line. Since 2014, she’s become best known as the writer of Marvel Entertainment’s breakout series Ms. Marvel, which she created alongside Adrian Alphona and editors Steve Wacker and Sana Amanat.

“I’m delighted to be writing such an iconic character as Wonder Woman and to be working with DC once again,” Wilson said in a statement. “With more than 75 years of history, Wonder Woman has a wealth of backstory and drama to draw from, and I look forward to putting a spin on Diana and her supporting cast that’s both new, yet familiar. It’ll be a challenge to do her justice, but I like a challenge and can’t wait to get started.”

Added DC publisher Dan DiDio: “Willow’s return to DC to write Wonder Woman is an incredible opportunity for us, and we couldn’t be more excited. Keeping our core audience engaged requires having the best storytellers around, and she’s definitely a great addition to our current list of writing talent.”

Joining Wilson on the first story arc will be artist Cary Nord, whose work has appeared in Dark Horse Comics’ Conan and Valiant Entertainment’s X-O Manowar; he is currently illustrating the launch of DC’s The Unexpected, written by Steve Orlando. The first storyline, “The Just War,” will reintroduce Wonder Woman villain Ares, and teases the return of Themyscira to Earth.

According to the publisher, Wilson and Nord’s first issue will be Wonder Woman No. 58, set for release on Nov. 14.
