The ad, titled “Inside Theses Lines,” will air during NBC’s Sunday Night Football to “highlight the unifying force of our great game and attributes of our players,” the NFL said Sunday in a statement.
Actor Forest Whitaker narrates the video spot, saying, “Inside these lines, we don’t have to come from the same place to help each other reach the same destination. Inside these lines, we may have our differences, but recognize there is more that unites us.”
“We think this is the single best response to demonstrate what we are about,” an NFL spokesman told CNN, which was the first outlet to report the news.
President Trump told an Alabama crowd on Friday that spectators should walk out of games where players kneel during the national anthem. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you’d say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now! Out! He’s fired!” said Trump.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady mentioned unity in a Facebook post Sunday morning before his team took on the Houston Texans. He posted a picture of himself with teammate James White with the caption, “Strength. Passion. Love. Brotherhood. Team. Unity. Commitment. Dedication. Determination. Loyalty. Work. #nflplayer.”
