Niecy Nash has married Jessica Betts in a surprise ceremony, the couple announced on social media on Monday.
The Mrs. America and Claws star revealed the news on Instagram and Twitter with a picture showing herself and Betts walking down the aisle hand in hand. “Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” she wrote (Carol Denise is Nash’s legal name), using the marriage equality hashtag “#LoveWins” with a rainbow emoji.
In her Instagram story, Nash recognized that some fans may have been surprised by the announcement: “#PlotTwist,” Nash wrote with a rainbow emoji beside a picture of herself and Betts.
Betts, a singer and songwriter, posted alongside the same photo, “I got a whole Wife” and also tagged “#LoveWins.” The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Nash’s representatives for more details on the ceremony.
Nash has previously been married to minister Don Nash, with whom she has three children, and electrical engineer Jay Tucker. Nash announced her divorce from Tucker in a joint statement in October 2019 on Instagram, saying, “We believe in the beauty of truth. Always have.” It added, “Our truth is that in this season of our lives, we are better friends than partners in marriage. Our union was such a gorgeous ride. And as we go our separate ways now, we feel fortunate for the love we share — present tense.”
