Latinos continue to be a strong force at the box office, according to a new Nielsen report.
The demographic represented 18 percent of the moviegoing population in 2012 but accounted for 25 percent of all movies seen, according to the latest American Moviegoing report released Tuesday by Nielsen National Research Group that echoed findings by the MPAA in 2011. Latinos also were the only group to have seen more movies than in 2011, at an average of 9.5 per person.
Nielsen cited such movies as the 3D animated Hotel Transylvania and cop thriller End of Watch as two of the most successful movie in luring Latino audiences to the multiplex last year.
Meanwhile, people between the ages of 25 and 54 accounted for 52 percent of moviegoers, down from 56 percent in 2011, while younger audiences (between 12 and 24) accounted for 30 percent, up from 29 percent a year earlier. Older moviegoers (between 55 to 74) also saw a noted increase in attendance at 18%, up from 15%.
