In honor of that fateful day that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) time traveled to in the 1989 film, Back to the Future II, Nike has hinted that the self-lacing shoes featured as one of the futuristic gadgets of the year 2015 (might) be officially here.
According to Tech Insider, Nike filed a patent for the self-lacing sneaker earlier this year, and then, last night, the company cryptically tweeted, “@realmikefox see you tomorrow.”

Nike confirmed to ABC News, that there are Nike Mags sneakers in New York City, however the company is mum about whether or not they will be available for sale.
In 2011, Nike auctioned off 1,500 pairs of limited edition replica sneakers (without auto laces) on eBay to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, raising $4.7 million in the process — so we have no doubt that should they go on sale, they’d fly off the shelves.
Update: Late Wednesday afternoon, Nike confirmed that the fully functioning 2015 Nike Mags will be available for auction during a limited release in spring 2016. The proceeds, as with the replicas, will benefit Fox’s Parkinson’s foundation. The actor, rather fittingly was the first recipient of the shoe.
