In the trailer for Nina, we get a first look at Zoe Saldana’s portrayal of the famous jazz singer Nina Simone.
The film, the directorial debut of Cynthia Mort, focuses on Simone’s relationship with her nurse-turned-manager Clifton Henderson, played by Selma‘s David Oyelowo. The trailer sees the songstress later in her career, as she stages a comeback following her hospitalization and battle with addiction.
For the role, Saldana wore makeup to darken her skin, as well as a prosthetic nose.
Nina hits theater on April 22.
