The NYPD bomb squad has cleared the Time Warner Center Mall after two suspicious packages were investigated there just one day after a pipe bomb was mailed to the CNN New York headquarters in the Midtown Manhattan complex.
“The unattended packages being evaluated by the @nypdnews at the Time Warner Center Mall. have been cleared. No threat or danger,” the NYPD deputy commissioner for public information tweeted Thursday night.
An NYPD officer initially called a suspicious package in around 7:25 p.m. ET, requesting further assistance in investigating it, NYPD officer and spokesman George Tsourovakas told The Hollywood Reporter. The package was found on the third floor of the complex and the NYPD’s bomb squad was investigating.
The complex was partially evacuated, while the first floor remained open. CNN offices were not evacuated.
Soon after reports of the first package emerged, the NYPD deputy commissioner for public information tweeted that a “pair” of suspicious packages had been found in the building and were being investigated “as a precaution.”
On Wednesday, a package addressed to John Brennan, who is a correspondent for NBC and MSNBC, was investigated at the CNN offices and prompted an evacuation. The package was found to contain a pipe bomb; an envelope inside the package was filled with a white substance that was not deemed to be a “biological threat.“
The package was similar to those that were found at the residences of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and George Soros, among other Democratic politicians and prominent supporters.
