Over the past two months, there have been quite a few instances of police clashing with protesters. At times, the police have used mace and batons to break up the demonstrations. Hundreds have been arrested in New York and throughout the country.
The demonstrations started in September as protests against corporate greed and corruption. They have spread throughout the country, using the mission statement of fighting for the 99 percent instead of the wealthiest one percent. Celebrities have visited the protests to express their support, including Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore and Russell Simmons.
