Updated 2/24, 10:30 a.m.: NBC has confirmed Salke’s new deal. “I’m pleased to share the news that we’ve renewed Jennifer Salke as president of NBC Entertainment,” NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt wrote in a memo to staff. “I know she’s committed to her incredibly hard-working staff and is as dedicated as anyone here to making sure we maintain our strong leadership position among the broadcast networks. We all know the many challenges in front of us, and I’m very happy she will continue to lead the charge on the scripted front – and I know all of our producers and writers, such as Dick Wolf and Mark Burnett, feel the same way.”
NBC is in the process of renewing Jennifer Salke’s contract as president of the network, according to sources.
Salke joined NBC in 2011 as entertainment president under chairman Robert Greenblatt and has been part of a team that has seen NBC reverse its fortunes and rise to a number-one ranking. The network improved its performance thanks in large part to Sunday Night Football and The Voice. It’s biggest scripted success under Salke has been The Blacklist, which had performed strongly until a recent move from Monday to Thursday nights. NBC has not launched a bona fide scripted hit this season.
The duration of Salke’s extension is not clear, but Greenblatt’s contract runs through 2017 and it seems unlikely that her new deal would extend beyond that. Salke’s current contract was set to expire later this year. The network did not respond to a request for comment.
The move by NBC puts to rest (at least for now) rumors that Salke would exit the network, possibly to return to 20th Century Fox Television or a job under new Fox chiefs Dana Walden and Gary Newman.
