After a raucous reception for Empire creator Lee Daniels and star Taraji Henson, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and The Affair creator Hagai Levi, France’s biggest TV festival, Series Mania, wrapped up its biggest year yet this weekend.
Prizes for American and international series were awarded on Sunday.
HBO’s DGA and SAG winner Olive Kitteridge shared the Public Prize with Israeli drama False Flag. The assassination and mistaken identity drama from Homeland producer Keshet is getting an adaptation for Fox International Channels.
Meanwhile, FremantleMedia’s Cold War drama Deutschland 83 won for best international series. The spy series was picked up by CanalPlus for France during MIPTV, just ahead of Series Mania.
The show, which premiered to strong reviews at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, will be the first German-language series to air in the U.S. when it debuts on Sundance Channel in June. The Series Mania jury also awarded special mentions to Swedish political mystery Blue Eyes and Belgian soccer series Strikers.
The prize for best French series went to La Vie Devant Elles.
Amelie and Munich star Mathieu Kassovitz took the best male actor prize for his role in new CanalPlus secret service spy series The Bureau, from Mobius director Eric Rochant.
Alix Poisson was awarded the best female actor prize for her turn as a distressed mother searching for her teen daughter in the France 2 drama Disparue, sold internationally by Zodiak Rights.
French-Chinese co-production Ex-Model, which skewers the Parisian high fashion world, won the honor for the best web series.
The weeklong fete for small screen series welcomed more than 22,000 guests for screenings this year.
