Primetime
Track and field gets underway with qualifying rounds and its first gold medal (women’s shot put. Swimming starts wind down with women’s 200 meter backstroke, men’s 100-meter butterfly and the always fun 50-meter freestyle sprint for both men and women.

Women’s soccer enters the quarterfinals and the USA plays a win-or-go-home game against Sweden on NBCSN at noon (ET).

The U.S. ruled in the gymnastics
Simone Biles won the all-around gymnastics gold. (How can you not love Biles? Her Twitter feed is cute). And Aly Raisman took silver. That is the second time the Americans have gone 1-2 in the individual all-around final and it makes a history-making fourth straight all-around title for an American gymnast.
And America went predictably nuts.
