The sixth full day of the competition was also full of history for Team USA — from the gymnastics 1-2 finish to the breaking of a swimming color barrier. Recap
Oh man, this was a big day. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer premiered on NBC during the primetime broadcast, and that wasn’t even the biggest thing that happened.
The U.S. ruled in the gymnastics
Simone Biles won the all-around gymnastics gold. (How can you not love Biles? Her Twitter feed is cute). And Aly Raisman took silver. That is the second time the Americans have gone 1-2 in the individual all-around final and it makes a history-making fourth straight all-around title for an American gymnast.
And America went predictably nuts.

History
Simone Manuel won a historic U.S. gold in swimming. The USA wins lots of gold medals. What made this one special? She’s the first African-American woman to win a individual gold. She used the victory to speak out about police brutality. Good for her.
More History
Michael Phelps won again (yawn), this time in the 200-meter individual medley. And he broke another record — a 2168-year-old one. Seems Leonidas of Rhodes won 12 individual events across four Olympics (the Greeks didn’t have relays). Phelps now has 13 across four Olympics. And lest we forget, unlike Leonidas, Phelps doesn’t compete nude.

A Daily Beast reporter went on Tinder near the Olympic village and created a huge controversy. It angered a gay Olympian. And The Daily Beast apologized.
Ryan Lochte’s hair turned green. And yet, a Canadian announcer still confused him with Phelps (carrying on about the big upset).
After 16 Olympics, Fiji won its first medal, gold in the Rugby Sevens, beating Great Britain in the final. And they got their medals from Princess Anne (a former Olympian herself).
