Recently ousted NPR analyst Juan Williams won’t be without work for very long.
On Thursday, Williams signed a $2 million, three-year contract with Fox News. The deal comes one day after he was fired from NPR after openly discussing his travel fears during a discussion with Bill O’Reilly on his talk show The O’Reilly Factor.
Williams, who is no stranger to Fox News having often contributed as an analyst, will also pen a column for the news outlet’s website.
In announcing the deal with Williams, Roger Ailes, Fox News’ chief executive, smartly addressed the recent controversy surrounding the journalist, calling him “an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.” Ailes’ statement addressed Williams’ revelation on The O’Reilly Factor that he worries when traveling and spots people in “Muslim garb” on the same airplane. He expressed that his fears developed after the 9/11 terrorist attack forever changed the comfort level of American travelers.
Williams told Fox News on Thursday that he stands by his statement and mentiojned he was let go from NPR via a telephone call two days after his appearance on O’Reilly’s show.
