Patrice O’Neal‘s friends and colleagues are taking to social media to pay tribute to the comedian, who died Tuesday at the age of 41.
O’Neal suffered a stroke at the end of October, and details of the complications that led to his death have yet to be disclosed.
Late Night With Jimmy Fallon posted clips of O’Neal and this message on its website: “Today we found out the unfortunate news that comedian and friend of Late Night Patrice O’Neal passed away due to complications from a stroke. Patrice was an incredibly talented individual and a wonderful person and we were happy and fortunate to have him as a guest on our show.”

When he wasn’t bad-mouthing the Independent Spirit Awards for not nominating any actors from his film Red State, Kevin Smith recalled his time with O’Neal on the Opie & Anthony radio show: “I shared some air & some air time with the man on O&A & he was always funny & thoughtful. Patrice – He WILL be missed.”
Dane Cook posted a picture of himself and O’Neal on Twitter and wrote, “I started my career w/ Patrice O’Neal. He was 1 of the best ever. Fond memories of road gigs, late night eats & laughs.”

Charlie Sheen, the subject of O’Neal’s barbs at his Comedy Central roast, wrote on his WhoSay page, “The entertainment world as well as the world at large lost a brilliant man today. “Patrice had that rare ‘light’ around him and inside of him. I only knew him for the few days leading up to the Roast. Yet I will forever be inspired by his nobility, his grace and his epic talent.”
“My tears today are for the tremendous loss to his true friends and loving family,” he concluded.
