It was a Ralph Lauren fairy tale.
When Priyanka Chopra married Nick Jonas on Saturday, they both wore custom Ralph Lauren for their Christian wedding ceremony. It’s a full-circle moment for the couple, who made an early public appearance at the Met Gala in 2017 wearing Ralph Lauren as well (remember Chopra’s trench coat dress?).
The bride, 36, wore a strapless column dress with sequins underneath an embroidered coat with seven phrases: “Compassion,” “Family,” “Hope,” “Nicholas Jerry Jonas,” the date “1st December 2018,” her parents’ names “Madhu & Ashok” and the mantra “Om Namah Shivay.” For another personal touch, Chopra chose to sew a piece of her mother-in-law’s lace wedding dress into her gown.
The embroidery included mother of pearl paillettes, crystal beads and Swarovski crystals, which took 1,826 hours to complete. Chopra’s five-carat diamond ring was perhaps only outdone by her flowing 75-foot veil at the ceremony in Jodhpur, India, Vogue India reports. She later changed into a Ralph Lauren Collection ivory silk gown for the reception.
Her new husband, 26-year-old Jonas, wore a personalized Purple Label tux — a piece of Chopra’s dress with the words “My Jaan” (“My Life”) was sewn inside his jacket over his heart. The singer called the wedding the “happiest day of my life.” (Lauren also dressed the entire bridal party, with bridesmaids sporting silky blush charmeuse V-neck dresses.)
The Christian ceremony took place at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, where the festivities continued the next day for the couple’s Hindu wedding ceremony. For the occasion, the Quantico actress wore a custom red Sabyasachi Mukherjee lehenga. Featuring crystals, organza flowers and French knots, the outfit was hand-embroidered by 110 artists, taking more than 3,720 hours. The brand posted that Chopra’s jewelry was made with uncut diamonds, emeralds and Japanese pearls in 22-karat gold.
Jonas donned jewelry — a kalgi brooch and a diamond necklace — along with his silk sherwani, tissue safa headpiece and embroidered chikan dupatta from Sabyasachi. The entire fashion spectacle was topped off with Chopra’s champagne tulle lehenga at the reception. Custom made by Falguni Shane Peacock, the gown included crystals and beading to create Jodhpur wedding motifs like elephants, birds and flowers.
The pair first met at a Vanity Fair Oscars party. Though the couple took several months to confirm rumors of their relationship, they’ve allowed their wedding to be on public display, with a cover story in Vogue last week detailing how they met and fell in love, followed by their wedding photos exclusively publishing in People this week.
In Vogue, brother Joe Jonas revealed how happy Nick Jonas was going to the Met Gala with Chopra in Ralph Lauren: “I think she kind of knocked him off his feet. He was just this little puppy dog,” he said. “He’s sitting on the floor. And Sophie [Turner] and I were just laughing at him. We’re like, ‘Look at this little smitten, drunk kid right now.'”
One of their first dates was a live performance of Beauty and the Beast. “She walks into the Chateau [Marmont], and I feel an overwhelming sense of peace and understanding about this next chapter of my life,” Jonas said. After attending a Dodgers game the next day for date three, Jonas told his mom he was going to marry Chopra.
Head to toe @RalphLauren with a @Chopard timepiece. Honored. Thank you both for helping make this day so special for everyone pic.twitter.com/JOf0kssefP
