Gerald Molen, the Oscar-winning producer of Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park and other blockbuster films, is perhaps better known these days for executive producing Dinesh D’Souza’s documentaries, 2016: Obama’s America and America: Imagine a World Without Her.
He is executive producing D’Souza’s next film, Hillary’s America, which should be released near the end of July, coinciding with the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
The film’s trailer was revealed this weekend at CPAC, a large gathering of conservatives, and it immediately became controversial for its display of racist imagery. Molen discussed the trailer with The Hollywood Reporter.
Why are there images of the KKK and slavery in a documentary about Hillary Clinton?
To show exactly where the Democratic party came from. Democrats don’t want to talk about it. They like to say racism was the fault of Republicans. That is pure bullshit — excuse me — you can tell I get emotional about this. They don’t teach the history of Democrats and slavery. Students know nothing about history, nothing about America. They don’t know 600,000 people died in the Civil War, most of them trying to protect black Americans from Democrats who supported slavery.
There are also scenes of D’Souza in prison, but that’s not real footage of him in the halfway house, is it?
No. They’re scenes about hypocrisy. Why would they excuse Harry Reid, for example, for taking money from his campaign finance fund but go after Dinesh D’Souza for giving money to a woman running for Hillary Clinton’s former Senate seat? That’s hypocrisy, and the film builds that up. I don’t even know if what I said about Reid will be in the film, it’s just one of many examples I thought of. I hope it’s in there.
Some media reports call the trailer propaganda, even comparing it to Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl’s work.
(Laughs). I’ve been waiting for this! They haven’t seen the film and they’re already passing judgment. That really ticks me off. They’re entitled to their opinions, but I’ll hear their opinions everywhere and they’ll never hear mine, except maybe through, you, Paul. They’re not even interested in seeing the film, and they’re already judging it. That’s great!
So what’s the takeaway? Why does the film recommend not voting for Clinton?
There was a time when we revered honesty. We have lost this sense of urgency for truth.
Are you calling Clinton a liar? Do you know her?
In one of my boxes I have a photo of me shaking hands with her. It’s in a box because there’s not a lot of pride there for me … when she lied about the video that cost the guys in Benghazi their lives, she lost me. I have many liberal friends, and they don’t care. To paraphrase a famous lady, their attitude is: ‘At this point in time, what difference does it now make that she lied to those families who lost loved ones in Benghazi?’

The Abolitionists. There’s no actors, it’s all actual footage, about kids who have been sold and traded into sex trafficking throughout the world. I joined up with these guys who go in with hidden cameras. So far, about 430 kids have been rescued by these guys and 130 people have been put in jail.
