From Donald Trump’s stunning presidential upset to the untimely deaths of David Bowie, Prince, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, 2016 was a year that many Hollywood insiders have been keen to move past. But what does the future hold? THR commissioned readings for 2017 from celebrity psychic Thomas John, tarot card reader Angie Banicki and Astrology Zone founder Susan Miller.
President Trump’s First Year
THOMAS JOHN, PSYCHIC Donald Trump will be tested a lot, especially in his first year, by military action from a foreign country. We are going to see few changes on the immigration front: No steps will be made to build a wall, and I don’t see big changes in immigration numbers, though he will return to this agenda in late 2017 and early 2018. The biggest controversy will be the Supreme Court, which truly will be his lasting legacy. I see him making two replacements in his first term. But Reince Priebus won’t last as chief of staff. Overall, by the end of 2017, Trump’s approval ratings will be very high. He will be unconventionally close to the American people, setting up town hall meetings and gatherings so people feel they have access to him. Conflicts of interest will be a major problem, with various instances where he will support legislation that seems to be in collusion with his business interests.
Will Melania Live at 1600 Penn.?
ANGIE BANICKI, TAROT READER Melania Trump feels completely trapped and does not want to move to the White House. The cards first show the eight of swords but then show she will eventually attend to her duties as wife and mother and move in.
Michelle Obama’s Future
JOHN First lady Michelle Obama will write a very successful and powerful memoir. She will launch a lifestyle line and donate proceeds to charities. I do not see her in politics. She will stay very committed to her foundations and continue her work with Let Girls Learn. Her legacy as a first lady will last for a very long time.
Hillary’s Next Steps
BANICKI The cards show the nine of swords for Hillary Clinton — a woman crying in bed. She still is feeling wronged by the election and is allowing herself time to heal. Clinton has a lot of options, though, and is really weighing them. The cards show that she is going to get back out there. She’s not going anywhere, people!
Tom Cruise’s The Mummy: Hit?
SUSAN MILLER, ASTROLOGER Tom Cruise has a really good chart — one of the most exciting this year. You will hear news about him on Feb. 10, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 — all pivotal times. He’s due for a big resurgence, so his movies look to be hits this year. His whole world opens up like a juicy coconut in October. There will be real estate news in August as well. Expect a move, or perhaps he will sell one home or buy another.
JOHN I sense success in this — it will lead to other movies in a similar theme: Bride of Frankenstein, Invisible Man, etc. I think it might be one of the highest-grossing films of 2017.
How Will Spider-Man Do?
JOHN It will do well.
BANICKI Cards show that this movie is fun but is up against some really great competition. It won’t do as well as expected. I’d change the release date if I were the producers.

JOHN I feel like this is going to be blocked and not actually happen.
BANICKI Yes to AT&T and Time Warner merger. A fair contract will come together. It’s going to take time, but the Justice and Magician cards show it definitely will happen in 2017. Everyone will need to have patience. Cards are also showing me another surprise merger in 2017.
Hollywood Couples
JOHN I don’t see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie back together, but they will reconcile and co-parent. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will split, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom will split, and Beyonce and Jay Z will split.
MILLER Angelina was unhappy at a time when we thought she was happy. She will recover through 2017. Brad will have a much more delayed reaction to the divorce, processing the aftermath through 2020. I see great sadness, much more for him than for her.
And the Oscar Goes to?
JOHN Moonlight
BANICKI La La Land and Moonlight will get awards but not best picture. Based on my channeling, we know the winner will be about the past, be inspirational and will have some pain. Doesn’t feel like Arrival, Manchester by the Sea, Silence. My cards say Fences.
