Queen Elizabeth II briefly joined the social media world today, sending her first tweet from @BritishMonarchy, an account managed by palace officials.
The royal tweet was sent in honor of a new tech exhibition opening at the Science Museum in London. “It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.”

The British monarch took off her glove in order to send the tweet, in front of an audience of approximately 600 guests. The Buckingham Palace account then published a photo of the monarch hitting a button on an iPad.
One astute Twitter user pointed out that the tweet was published as sent “via Twitter for iPhone,” not from iPad.
.@BritishMonarchy if the queen just sent a tweet how come the photo is of an iPad yet the tweet was sent from iPhone? pic.twitter.com/tr9Tpzbj9P

A palace spokesman admitted the tweet was pre-typed, reports The Wall Street Journal. “The queen approved the text and then subsequently sent it,” he said. However, he declined to comment on the iPhone/iPad discrepancy, saying, “We’re not going to get into the processology of this.”
