“I have to be realistic about what I can and can’t do,” Latifah says. “So whatever I do has to really be worth it. I like to master the things I do. Making this show great, that’s my focus right now. I want to bring some positivity to daytime TV.”
Queen Latifah will host the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, it was announced Friday morning.
The talk show host will emcee the Nov. 14 event at the Hollywood Palladium. The two-hour event will be broadcast for the first time on CBS, beginning at 8 p.m. ET (Pacific zones will be tape-delayed).
“I’m honored to be a part of such a legendary award show,” said Latifah in a statement. “The Hollywood Film Awards have been a staple in the awards season for years, and I’m excited to be the first host to bring them to television!”

“Queen Latifah is the real deal. She is a triple threat — she can act, she can sing, she can dance — she is beloved by audiences across multiple genres and she entertains millions of people every day,” said Jack Sussman, executive vp, specials, music and live events for CBS. Added Carlos de Abreu, founder and ep of the Hollywood Film Awards, “Queen Latifah is a world-class entertainer. From film and music to television, her humor, quick wit and ability to entertain live audiences make her the perfect choice to host the Hollywood Film Awards.”
The awards show will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on CBS with a red carpet arrivals special, and will be followed by a live one-hour recap and interview program with CBS This Morning anchors Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King.
