ROME – Veteran Italian director Enzo G. Castellari, one of the last of the original Spaghetti Western helmers still working, says he has a new project planned and that Quentin Tarantino has promised to make a cameo appearance in the film.
The film, to be called Badlanders, will also include a small role for Franco Nero, whose 1966 portrayal of the brooding protagonist in Sergio Corbucci’s Spaghetti Western classic Django was the inspiration for Tarantino’s blockbuster Django Unchained.

“We’re starting to make westerns again, and Tarantino promised me he’d take a small role in the film,” the 74-year-old Castellari told Italian journalists, according to the Turin-based daily La Stampa.
In an interview, Castellari — best known for his 1976 western Keoma, which starred Nero in the main role — said Tarantino’s film has helped revive the Italian-style genre.
There’s no word yet about the story line for Badlanders.
Tarantino’s agent did not immediately respond to THR‘s request for comment.
