R. Kelly Says He Is Not Convinced of Bill Cosby’s Guilt Over Sexual Assault Allegations

R&B singer R. Kelly says he is not convinced that disgraced Hollywood star Bill Cosby is guilty of any wrongdoing despite the dozens of women who have come forward and accused the former actor and comedian of sexual assault.

In an interview with GQ published on Wednesday, Kelly called the situation of victims making allegations about Cosby years after the alleged incidents “strange.” 

“Well, my opinion on that is, I don’t know what happened,” Kelly told GQ.

The 78-year-old Cosby has been charged with aggravated indecent assault, a first-degree felony, by the Montgomery County, Pa., District Attorney’s Office and sued by numerous women who accused him of drugging them and sexually assaulting them.

Kelly, who was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008, said he could not give his opinion on the allegations because he did not know if they were true, adding “all I can say is that it was a long time ago.”

“And when I look on TV and I see the 70-, 80-, 90-year-old ladies talking about what happened when they were 17, 18, or 19, there’s something strange about it,” Kelly said. “That’s my opinion. It’s just strange.”

If God “showed” Kelly that Cosby was guilty, then that would be a different story, he told the magazine. 

“But God would have to do that, because God is the only one can show me that,” Kelly said. “No man can tell me that. No woman can tell me that. And when you wait 70 years, 50 years, 40 years, to say something that simple, it’s strange. You know why I say that is because it happened to me, and it wasn’t true.”

Cosby is currently out on $1 million bail.
