For Rachel Zoe, glamour comes second nature. “My mother was very glamorous,” explains the stylist, designer and author. “Growing up, it’s all I knew. [She] never left the house in sweatpants, or without makeup or jewelry. It’s not bad to do that, but I always saw glamour,” adds the New Jersey native, who admits that her love affair with all things stylish is also something she was born with.
So it was only a matter of time before Zoe packed her stylish know-how into a second book, Living in Style: Inspiration and Advice for Everyday Glamour, which hits shelves Tuesday.
LIST: The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Stylists 2014
Following in the (well-heeled) footsteps of her 2007 New York Times best-selling debut tome, Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty and Everything Glamour, Zoe’s latest pen-to-paper effort chronicles the fashion force’s updated tips for living life elegantly in the realms of home, beauty, fashion and travel. The book also makes its fashionable entrance timed to the debut of Zoe’s ready-to-wear fall 2014 collection, which boasts a ’60s Parisian girl-meets-modern-day vibe (think houndstooth-checked pants and suspenders with a matching blazer, a marigold-hued shift dress, all in Zoe’s signature tailoring).
“Living in Style is the grown-up version of my last book,” says Zoe, who has racked up a number of serious style accolades since the debut of Style A to Zoe, including the launch of her eponymous line, a hit reality show on Bravo (sadly, the show was canceled in August 2013 after five seasons) and the debut of the fashion-savvy The Zoe Report website and newsletter. And did we even start to mention new motherhood? (Together with husband Rodger Berman, Zoe gave birth to son Skyler Morrison in March 2011 and Kaius Jagger in December 2013.)
STORY: Rachel Zoe Gives Birth to Baby Boy
From decorating your home to setting a table to looking glam on the go, the image-heavy coffee table must-have touches upon all facets of stylish living, for everyone from tweens to grandmothers — and new mothers, natch. “I had very little time before,” says Zoe, who gave birth to Kaius Jagger as she was wrapping up the book. “And becoming a mother, you have even less time. I wear black every day because almost everything I own has food on it,” she adds, referencing her day’s outfit of a black tunic and pants from her spring 2014 collection, topped with a giraffe-print coat.
“This book elaborates more on how to live life in a glamorous way without trying too hard, ever,” says Zoe, who ranks No. 6 on The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Stylists this year. “It follows my mantra that you don’t have to have a big budget, you don’t have to be rich and famous to look good and feel good.”
For an autographed copy, catch Zoe’s book signing event at The Grove’s Barnes & Noble this Friday at 7 p.m.
