MOSCOW — RealD, a global 3D and visual technology licensor, has signed an agreement with Russia’s largest cinema chain, Cinema Park, to install about 200 screens across the country and a “LUXE: A RealD Experience” Premium Large Format auditorium at St. Petersburg’s Grand Canyon theater.
In another deal with Karo Film, Russia’s second largest cinema chain, ten “LUXE: A RealD Experience” auditoriums are to be installed in the exhibitor’s sites in several major Russian cities. Two of them, in Moscow and St. Petersburg, are expected to be inaugurated this winter, and another eight are to be put in operation as of next year’s second quarter.

Installations at Cinema Park sites are already in progress and are expected to be completed within five years.
“Russian moviegoers continue to show a real passion for premium quality cinema, and this agreement highlights our commitment to this growing audience,” Robert Mayson, managing director of RealD Europe, said in a press release. “Cinema Park is a prestigious exhibitor with ambitions that match our own and we are proud to have secured this deal to continue to expand our offering of RealD 3D and ‘LUXE: A RealD Experience’ in the region.”
“We look forward to working with Karo Film to bring the ‘LUXE: A RealD Experience’ brand to life so moviegoers can experience the assured quality 2D and 3D visuals, audio and seating that will combine to create the ultimate out of home entertainment experience,” added RealD’s CEO Michael V. Lewis.
Under agreements signed earlier this year, RealD is already installing over 300 screens in the sites of Karo Film and the country’s third largest cinema chain, Kinomax, across the country.
Cinema Park operates 281 screens in 18 of Russia’s largest cities. Karo Film and Kinomax operate 196 screens and 149 screens, respectively.
