Almost a month after Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, an array of leaders will pay tribute to the Supreme Court Justice.
Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Stacey Abrams, and more are set to headline a virtual “Honor Her Wish” event on Monday, Oct. 12 to honor Ginsburg’s life and legacy, as well as urge for her dying wish for a seat to be filled by a new president be fulfilled.
Justice Ginsburg was recognized as a women’s rights champion who became the court’s second female justice. Her death came just over six weeks before Election Day which spurred a heated battle over whether her seat should remain vacant until after the election or whether President Donald Trump should nominate, and the Republican-led Senate should confirm, her replacement. Following her death, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that that the Senate would vote on Trump’s pick to replace Ginsburg, even though it’s an election year.
The virtual event will follow the first day of Republican confirmation hearings for Trump’s nominee to replace Ginsburg, Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
Other stars and political figures confirmed to join the virtual event to speak or perform include: Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Gloria Steinem, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Chelsea Clinton, Sophia Bush, Rosario Dawson, Regina King, Kesha, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy (Virginia Military Institute graduate), Shana Knizhnik (co-author of The Notorious RBG), Sam Bagenstos and Margo Schlanger (former clerks to Justice Ginsburg), Jon Batiste, Phoebe Bridgers, Kathleen Hanna, Margo Price, Author Aminatou Sow, Artist Michael Stipe, Haley Williams and Resistance Revival Chorus.
More attendees are expected to be announced at a later date. To participate in the event, guests must RSVP online in advance.
The “Honor Her Wish” event will take place on Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. ET.
