Relativity Television said Thursday that it has signed a first-look production deal with Shuki Levy, co-founder of Saban Entertainment and producer of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers brand and franchise.
Relativity TV will oversee worldwide distribution, finance and production for Levy’s original kids-targeted content, the first of which is Tribe of the Wild, an action-adventure series that combines live action and CGI animation.
“Relativity Television is committed to building a home for some of the most talented, creative and successful producers in the industry,” Relativity Television CEO Tom Forman said. “We are thrilled to be expanding our scripted business by forging this relationship with the renowned Shuki Levy, who has an unparalleled sense of how to create high-quality children’s content.”
At Relativity, Levy joins a stable of executive producers and show creators that includes Jay Blumenfield and Tony Marsh, Bogner Entertainment, This Is Just a Test Productions and Ashley Tisdale’s BlondieGirl Productions. The company, which has 17 original series currently on air, has recently expanded into scripted programming with the development of scripted sitcoms, dramas and sketch comedy series.
Said Levy: “What excites me most about Relativity is the energy of the company and the passion of the people who work there. I’m looking forward to working with them on Tribe of the Wild and many other exciting projects.”
Tribe follows the extraordinary adventures of five average high school friends who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. In an unfamiliar world where past, present and future are merged into one, the teens embark on a mysterious and treacherous journey.
Levy created the series and will serve as writer, executive producer and provide the original score. Ronnie Hadar, the original producer of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, joins Levy as producer.
Levy has written, produced and directed several independent features for both theatrical and television release, including Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie, Turbo — A Power Rangers Movie, Susie Q, Rusty: A Dog’s Tale and Aussie andTed. He also is a composer, songwriter and recording and performing artist and has scored a dozen feature and television films and composed the music for more than 130 television series, including Inspector Gadget, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Spider Man, X-Men andPower Rangers.
The deal was brokered by Raphael Berko of Media Artists Group.
