NEW DELHI — Film and entertainment services unit Reliance MediaWorks Ltd. will see its Burbank-based Global Imaging Technology Center being honored at this year’s AMPAS Scientific and Technical Awards to be held on February 11.
The awards will be presented to John Lowry, Ian Cavén, Kimball Thurston, Ian Godin and Tim Connolly. The latter three continue to be associated fully with RMW’s Global Imaging Technology Center.
RMW expanded its overseas presence in the film services business by acquiring DTS Digital Images – popularly known as Lowry Digital Images founded by John Lowry – in April 2008 for about $7.5 million in cash.
The AMPAS honor is for the development of a unique and efficient system for the reduction of noise and other artifacts, thereby providing high quality images required by the filmmaking process.
RMW’s Burbank facility has developed proprietary software for a variety of applications including restoration, remastering, SD to HD upconversions, large format films, new production emergency work, 3D correction, 2D to 3D conversion, among other applications.
The company’s body of work includes film restoration for classics including Citizen Kane, Singin’ In The Rain, Casablanca, Sunset Boulevard, the Indiana Jones trilogy, the early Star Wars films, 20James Bond films, and numerous Disney animated films. RMW has also offered digital capture services for recent features such as Avatar, The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

“We are extremely proud of the team and their invaluable contribution towards the development of the proprietary image processing technology,” added RMW CEO Anil Arjun.
