LONDON – Richard Ayoade‘s sophomore movie The Double has secured the acting chops of two of the stars from his first film Submarine with Noah Taylor and Yasmin Paige joining the cast.
TaylorandPaige join Wallace Shawn (Vanya on 42nd Street) and James Fox (Sherlock Holmes) in the cast that already stars Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre) for the movie inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novella of the same name.
Written by Ayoade and Avi Korine (Mister Lonely), The Double is billed as a funny and frightening story about an insignificant man driven to near breakdown by the appearance of his doppelganger.
Ayoade’s movie is produced by Amina Dasmal and Robin Fox of Alcove Entertainment and co-produced by Andy Stebbing.
International sales is handled by U.K. based Protagonist Pictures with France’s StudionCanal pre-buying U.K. and Ireland rights except terrestrial television rights to the picture on the eve of this year’s EFM in Berlin.
The project’s co-financier and co-developer Film4, the standalone filmmaking unit of broadcaster Channel 4, retains British TV rights.
It has also been sold in France (Mars), Hong Kong (Golden Scene), Switzerland (Rialto) and Portugal (Lusomundo).
Ayoade is also known for his turns in TV comedy shows including The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd, and will soon be seen in sci-fi comedy Neighbourhood Watch alongside Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.
