With his most famous TV character, The Office’s David Brent, set to return to screens in upcoming mockumentary Life on the Road, Ricky Gervais has now oiled the wheels by releasing a studio version of a song by the former paper merchant middle-manager, also an aspiring rock star.
“Slough,” a musical tribute to the town where Gervais’ original hit series — the inspiration for the U.S. remake — was set, had already been heard in a live tour that Gervais did as Brent earlier in the year, as well as YouTube series Learn Guitar With David Brent.
The song has now been given the full studio treatment, with strings backing lyrics such as “it’s got Europe’s biggest trading estate,” referring to the town’s business park, and “the station’s just got a new floor, and the motorway runs by your door.” It is not known whether the song will feature in the film.

Announced in August, Life on the Road will catch up with Brent more than a decade after The Office U.K. version ended in December 2003, with the traveling sales rep self-funding his own music tour. Produced by BBC Films, the project is due to begin shooting next year.
