It appears the bucket hat is back. Or, at the very least, Opening Ceremony and Rihanna’s best friend, Melissa Forde, are trying hard to revive it.
Forde, a photographer who grew up with the superstar in Barbados (not to be confused with the original video model Melyssa Ford), has partnered with Wale’s beanie brand Wrkng Title for a collection that grew out of the void she saw in the market for bucket hats with the right fit, fabrics and prints.

The M$$ x WT collection for Opening Ceremony comprises three styles, including the mesh “Black Beauty” and colorful printed “Pink Pineapple” hats ($55 each). Forde, who considers the classic rapper accessory her own signature, was recently appointed creative director of Wrkng Title, where she’ll be refining the brand’s beanies.

In May, Opening Ceremony will get a second shipment, this time perforated leather bucket hats in white, black and pastel lavender and mint, along with a group of “oversized clown graphic buckets.” The latter sounds a little scary, but hey, if bucket hats can be fashionable then maybe clowns can, too.
