Rupert Wyatt’s reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes charges into theaters Friday.
Here are the actors who brought the film’s biggest characters to life.
James Franco: The actor plays genetic scientist Will Rodman in this remake of the original 1968 film starring Charlton Heston. Franco, who got his start on the short-lived television show Freaks and Geeks, also paints, writes, and holds degrees from UCLA, Columbia and is currently attending Yale as a PhD student. He has also been accepted into the University of Houston’s doctoral program for the fall of 2012.
Freida Pinto: The L’Oreal spokesperson shot to stardom after her heartbreaking portrayal of star-crossed-lover Latika in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire. In Rise, she’ll play Caroline Aranha, Will’s veterinarian girlfriend. Up next she’ll play the goddess Phaedra opposite Henry Cavill in Immortals.
John Lithgow: Hollywood veteran, Lithgow plays Charles Rodman, Will’s dementia-addled father. Lithgow, a theater, TV and film actor has played everything from an uptight Reverend in Footloose to an alien living on Earth in 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Tom Felton: As the head of a chimp detention facility, Felton plays Dodge Landon, one of the film’s bad guys. But viewers will recognize him from his previous work as Draco Malfoy — also one of the bad guys — in all eight of the Harry Potter films.
