The Robber Bridegroom is back.
The bluegrass musical comedy from Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman is being revived off-Broadway, Roundabout Theatre Company and Daryl Roth Productions announced Thursday. The production will star Steven Pasquale (The Bridges of Madison County) and be directed by Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Rocky).
The Robber Bridegroom will begin previews Feb. 18 before its official opening on March 13 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. The limited engagement will run through May 29.
Based on the short story by Southern writer Eudora Welty, The Robber Bridegroom zooms in on a slew of conmen and charlatans in Mississippi’s Natchez Trace, including Jamie Lockhart (the role to be played by Pasquale), who falls for the daughter of a wealthy planter. The revival comes 40 years after the original, which opened on Broadway in 1975 with Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone.
The show’s creative team includes choreography by Connor Gallagher, sets by Donyale Werle, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lights by Howell Binkley and sound by Darron L. West.
