“I feel like I did after 9/11,” Robert De Niro said of the election of Donald Trump during an interview on Nov. 10 for Awards Chatter, The Hollywood Reporter‘s awards podcast, which will post in its entirety early next week.
He continued, “And we’ll just see what happens. There will be many, many, many, many, many people watching.”
De Niro, who currently is promoting the film The Comedian (which will screen at AFI Fest on Nov. 11 and hit theaters Jan. 13 after an Academy-qualifying run next month), has been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics. Back in October, a video went viral in which the actor called his fellow New Yorker a host of names — “blatantly stupid,” “pig,” “punk” and “dog” — and said, “He talks about how he’d like to punch people in the face? Well, I’d like to punch him in the face.”
