Anti-mafia journalist and author Roberto Saviano will be heading to Munich, under heavy police protection, to present the small-screen version of his best-selling expose Gomorrah at the Munich International Film Festival.

The drama, adapted from Saviano’s non-fiction account of the Camorra mafia in Naples, has been a massive hit on 21st Century Fox’s Sky Italia, with more than 1.2 million viewers per episode.
Saviano’s book was previously made into a Golden Globe-nominated film by Matteo Garrone in 2008.

Saviano, together with series showrunner Stefano Sollima, lead cast member Marco D’Amore and producers Gina Gardini and Nils Hartmann will present the series at its German premiere in Munich on Sunday.
Gomorrah will bow on 21st Century Fox’s Sky Germany and Sky UK later this year and will go out on CanalPlus in France and HBO in Latin America. German-French public broadcaster Arte has secured free-TV rights for those territories from world sales group Beta Film.

The Weinstein Company has picked up U.S. rights for the series and is also believed to be considering an English-language adaptation.
The second season of Gomorrah will begin shooting in Italy this summer.
