Lionsgate is in negotiations to produce Jay Roach’s star-studded Roger Ailes movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The untitled movie was dropped by Annapurna last week days before production was set to start.
After Annapurna pulled out, sources told THR that Focus Features, Amblin and Participant Media were in the mix to acquire the movie, but all seem to have passed. Lionsgate, which sees the project as an opportunity to become involved with a star-studded vehicle, now looks like the front-runner.
The movie will focus on the late Fox News chief Roger Ailes and features a stellar cast, with John Lithgow set to play Ailes and Malcolm McDowell portraying Rupert Murdoch. Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie (who will play Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson and Kayla Pospisil, respectively), round out the all-star cast.
Deadline was first to report the news.
